Nonsuch Island
One of the most important values of this living museum is for promoting public education and knowledge of the environment and the potential for preserving and restoring endangered species and habitats. Over 25 tour groups visited Nonsuch Island in 2007 and were given tours led by the Terrestrial Conservation Officer or trained guides. These included regular tours with groups of schoolchildren from the sail training sloop ‘Spirit of Bermuda’ as part of their educational program. Of special note, well over 100 schoolchildren and residents were given a rare chance to observe Bermuda’s National Bird, the Cahow, being hand fed and measured as part of the project to re-establish a breeding colony on Nonsuch Island.
